Of Joy and Pain

With heavy heart I leave the inn,
Leaving behind kith and kin,
The time for mirth has now passed,
The mead is dry, I’ve had my last

The hearth is cold, as am I,
Questioning eyes ask me why,
There is no joy in my voice,
But this end, was my choice

I dreamt of a life grandiose,
With dreamy eyes, poesy prose,
But plans go awry in an instant,
What was a brocade, now is tinsel

But I’d rather live my life this way,
Fear and care the devil may,
Rather swing between joy and pain,
Than doubt each moment, go insane
